As I pack my suticase for yet another week on the road away from the family, “Sleep Away” seems like an appropriate pick for a chill jazz selection this week.

Just watching the surfing flick ‘September Sessions’ and this tune popped up…had to run to the computer and post this. ‘Willow Tree’ by G. Love & Special Sauce. “Water over the pebble, I’ll stand by your side…forever.” I just planted a willow tree down by the river last summer and its really growing well so here’s to the big strong floppy green tree growing down back and swaying happily in the wind on this rainy day. Mahalo!
Brilliant lyrics in this song. Nico is clearly a beautiful woman but I think that somehow overshadowed the greater talent that lurked underneath her skin.
“Now that it’s light
Now that the candle’s falling smaller in my mind
Now that it’s here
Now that I’m almost not so very far behind
I want to know do I stay or do I go
And maybe follow another sign…”

Back from the west coast…exhausted. Here’s a track that fits perfectly for my post California vibe by Richard Buckner.
Guess where I’m heading today?
The rain is coming down…as I sit at the window waiting for it to pass so I can get back out there again…ah screw it, the rain doesn’t hurt…I’m going back outside anyway.
Cool tune for the weather coming down from the skies and swirling around in my mind. It’s Aynsley Lister’s “Rain”. If you like it, check out his website for a free download: http://www.aynsleylister.co.uk/.
Martha Wainwright comes from a family of talented artists (mom was a singer, dad was a musician and actor, brother Rufus is a musician). She expertly delivers a beautiful tune over hard and honest sounding lyrics. You may be either turned on or turned off by the song title but either way, give it a listen.
When I post Sunday jazz its usually in the morning, when I’m in a certain state of mind. So this week I’m trying an evening lense for the pick and I couldn’t get past this song without posting it. John Coltrane is the summitt of my jazz Rushmore. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do (even half as much is still pretty damn good). I recommend wearing a seat belt because if this is the first time you are hearing it, its going to knock you outta your seat.
Do the manta ray…
Queens of the Stone Age - Better Living Through Chemistry
My favorite song from Rated R.
HAPPY HOMME DAY!!!
For Josh’s birthday today.
Christina Aguilera - Nasty Naughty Boyi totally would do a strip tease to this song
It’s getting hot up in here.
True yet haunting lyrics from a great musician who passed accidentally at too young an age:
“How Many Times, Have u Heard Someone Say,
If I Had Money, I Would Do Things My Way.
But Little They Know, That It’s So Hard To Find
One Rich Man In Ten, With A Satisfied Mind.
Money Can’t Buy Back, All Your Youth When Your Old
A Friend When Your Lonley, Or Peace To Your Soul
The Wealtiest Person, Is A Pauper At Times
Compared To The Man, With a Satisfied Mind.
When My Life Is Over, And My Time Has Run Out,
My Friends and My Lovers, I Will Leave, Theres No Doubt
But One Things For Certain, When It Comes My Time
I’ll Leave This Old World With A Satisfied Mind”
Amen brother, I hope you did. I hope I can say the same when it comes my time. RIP Jeff Buckley.
This Incubus track is perfectly fitting for this moment…floating down the river. Come drift with me.

Talking Heads - sugar on my tongue

I just finished eating the most delicious honey cinnamon ice cream…the kind of stuff that’s so damn good you’d be willing to exercise extra hard to justify what has just happened…then this song came up. Excellent!
Musical trailblazers Sun Ra are up for this weeks Sunday jazz installment. “Where Pathways Meet”, an appropriately titled track for the theme of this blog. Thanks to Dale for passing this along.
Great song, great performer, great city…
Digging through some old playlists today and stumbled upon this song. I used to listen to this constantly but haven’t heard it in a couple years. Good stuff.
